In this country, African Americans are not only discriminated against because of the color of their skin, but also because of the many other aspects of themselves like hair, clothes, etc. In the workspace, natural African American hair is looked down and shamed upon to the point where we don't feel safe and/or confident to fully express ourselves. I wanted to make an art piece embracing natural African American hair because I believe that as African Americans we should feel free and fully confident to express our hair and selves in a society will not.
